An article on the “California Watch” web site has created a false impression regarding ICNC and its relationship with Peter Ackerman and Rockport Capital, an administrative firm belonging to Mr. Ackerman.  ICNC is not controlled by Rockport or any other organization. It is an independent, self-governing, nonprofit educational operating foundation.  Mr. Ackerman is the founding chair and a member of the Board of Directors of ICNC. The latter’s offices are located on the same floor with Rockport and another foundation. As a matter of courtesy, when personnel of ICNC are not present, calls are forwarded either to voicemail or to a common receptionist.

The article also commented on Mr. Ackerman’s tax issues with the IRS, in what could be seen as an attempt to taint the reputation of Mr. Ackerman. As noted, Mr. Ackerman voluntarily resolved a series of civil tax issues with the IRS.  As part of that resolution, Mr. Ackerman received a refund of taxes previously paid.  The IRS did not conclude that Mr. Ackerman engaged in any misconduct.  There is no relationship between those matters and the management or programs of ICNC.
