VANESSA ORTIZ, Director, Civic and Field Relations
Vanessa Ortiz has worked for several international humanitarian and development organizations both overseas and in the United States. As Project Officer in the Resettlement Department of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), she led a three-year capacity-building project that helped strengthen refugee community-based organizations in the U.S. From 2003 to 2004, she served as Special Assistant to the President of Center for Humanitarian Cooperation, a not-for-profit organization created to assist the international humanitarian community in developing models for greater cooperation. In 2000, Vanessa worked at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in New York as a Project Officer in the Emergency Response Division.
Her global experience includes work with Mercy Corps’ overseas office in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2002 and the Office of the High Representative in Sarajevo, Bosnia’s post-war civilian peace implementation organization from 1996 to1998.
Vanessa’s education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the New York Institute of Technology. She is a graduate of the Global Master of Arts Program (GMAP) at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She has also undertaken professional course work at the American University of Cairo Refugee Studies Program, the International NGO Training and Research Centre in Oxford, England and the Harvard Program on Negotiation.
