ICNC Online Courses
ICNC offers a wealth of opportunities for structured online learning about civil resistance. These include:
- Moderated courses for selected cohorts (such as the moderated online course “People Power: The Strategic Dynamics of Civil Resistance”) that involve interactive discussion with peers and experts in the field.
- Unmoderated, participant-run courses for selected cohorts (such as the special course: “Civil Resistance Struggles: How Ordinary People Win Rights, Freedom, and Justice.”) that involves interactive discussions with peers moving through an expertly developed curriculum.
- Individualized, self-paced courses for general and professional audiences, including scholars, students, activists, organizers, journalists and members of the NGO and policy community, with varying levels of background knowledge.
- The Academic Online Curriculum (AOC) on Civil Resistance is an extensive and regularly updated set of resources on civil resistance, organized into clearly structured topics and case studies, in order to facilitate easy learning and curriculum development. The AOC is free and requires basic registration on ICNC’s online platform.

Participant-Led Courses
In response to increased demand for knowledge about civil resistance, in 2016 ICNC hosted an additional online course beyond its annual moderated online course. This course content was based off of the moderated course and was run entirely by a self-learning community of participants without outside moderators. After the first successful course, ICNC has continued offering an annual participant-led course.
2022
ICNC offered a participant-led course “Civil Resistance Struggles: How Ordinary People Win Rights, Freedom, and Justice” from April 20 to June 10. There were 71 applications and 50 participants.
