This book represents a preliminary examination of nonviolent political struggle in the Arab world. Though the authors opinions and points of view on the topic vary, they are unified in their desire that their work serve to counter conventional stereotypes of the Middle East and its people. Among the themes included in the book are the essential character of nonviolent struggle; the differences between those who perceive nonviolence as a creed and those who view it as a policy; and the arenas in which nonviolent struggle is most likely to be effective.
